Five of the best carvery pubs you need to try in Yorkshire
But sometimes heroes don't wear capes – they peel spuds and slow-roast meat. Our selection covers pretty much everything you could want from a family-friendly pub carvery; delicious food, a huge dose of character and a warm Yorkshire welcome. And with so many to choose from, you’re bound to find an incredible carvery near you.
Five of our favourite pub carveries in Yorkshire
A hand-pulled pint, a hearty plate of food, and a friendly Yorkshire welcome. What could be better? From long-cherished locals to family-friendly destinations, the county’s best carveries near you are waiting.Heathfield Farm, Birkenshaw
Danni on TripAdvisor said this was the “best carvery around!!!!” and you can’t really argue with four exclamation points. Located right in the middle of Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and Dewsbury, Heathfield Farm was made for sat navs and passengers with no sense of direction!
Well actually, it was made for carveries and it’s the best one around, remember? Hearty classics, served in generous portions, at affordable prices, with kids options too AND Great British Bake Off level desserts. You could say it’s the ultimate family pub carvery in Yorkshire – and you wouldn’t be far wrong!
Pear Tree Farm, York
Word of advice for this one? Come hungry. As generous with portions as with the hospitality, it’s impossible to leave Pear Tree Farm without a full stomach and even fuller heart. This is a carvery for seconds and thirds, and we don’t just mean plates.
Return visits are a regular occurrence here, with newcomers quickly turning regulars – and then part of the furniture!
Luckily, there’s plenty to do to help you work up an appetite. Lying on the outskirts of York, this carvery is ideally positioned for sightseeing in the historic city, with museums, theatres, shopping and the River Foss all within walking distance.
Meadow Farm, Ecclesfield
Came from a pitstop. Came back for the carvery. Kept coming back for the carvery. That’s how we’d sum up Meadow Farm. Located right on the edge of the beautiful Peak District, it’s the very first Farmhouse Inns pub restaurant we opened and the perfect place to refuel after a long drive or activity-packed day.
Yet, what starts as a ‘Shall we go there?” almost always becomes a “When can we go back?”. The only thing this pub loves more than making a carvery is sharing it with good company – and you’ll be in great company in Ecclesfield.
Sounds great, right? We haven’t even touched on the outdoor play area yet, which is a tourist attraction in its own right!
Hawthorne Farm, Yeadon
In the days of telephone boxes, it was an established fact that a Yorkshireman could ring God for only 10p because it would be a local call. These days, that very same Yorkshireman is too busy at the local pub carvery!
Located in the heart of God’s Own County, Hawthorne Farm is nestled on the outskirts of both Bradford and Leeds in Yeadon, close to Leeds Bradford Airport and near the beautiful scenery of the Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales. But the real scenes take place indoors.
This is a pub that likes to put on a spread. Slow-roasted meats. Proper Yorkshire puddings. Crispy, hand-made roasties and all the trimmings. When you pull up a seat at one of these tables, you won’t want to stand back up in a hurry!
Wingfield Farm, Hessle
Now this is a proper family pub. Located just west of Hull, along the Humber Estuary, Wingfield Farm provides the perfect setting for the whole gang to relax. Think indoor play areas, charming beer gardens, and roast dinners done right. AKA hearty, generous, and involving gravy. Lots of gravy.
Few places can satisfy the stomach, nourish the soul AND exhaust the kids – because that’s what you really want to know, right? – and this one does it all. Every day of the week. With an ice cream parlour too! Believe us when we say - this is a corker of a carvery. Time for a new local?
