Five fun things to do this Sunday
We love Sundays at Farmhouse Inns. We really think it’s the best day of the week. It’s the perfect day to relax and spend time with the family, whether you’re out for a walk, enjoying a delicious roast dinner, or getting a little sporty.
Here are five fab things to occupy you next Sunday. There’ll be no Sunday blues on our watch.
1. Head out into nature
Nature can do wonders for your mood. Even just half an hour spent outdoors can feel uplifting and grounding. So, this Sunday get the whole family together and experience nature.
Even getting out to your local park or green space can dust off the cobwebs, but don’t forget that the UK is home to some of the most spectacular scenery. So if you want to explore its beauty, hike in the Peak District, jump on your bike in the Yorkshire Dales or take a bracing cliffside stroll on the South Coast.
Just being together in nature is what Sundays are all about. And if you’re lucky, you might find a pub near you to enjoy along the way. If you’re in the Leicester area and exploring Watermead Country Park, for example, don’t miss the nearby Hobby Horse Farm with its outdoor play area.
2. Something cultural
If the heavens open on a Sunday, you might not be able to explore the best of nature. But you can still explore your local area with a trip to a museum or an art gallery.
You can learn about the past, get a little cultural and enjoy an educational Sunday as a family. If you’re close to Manchester, the kids will love the Museum of Science and Industry. The Manchester Art Gallery is always worth a look too, and you’ll have Bramley Farm to retreat to afterwards in the Altrincham area.
For Sundays in Liverpool, the World Museum is fantastic, while The Deep in Hull takes you below the depths of the ocean for an amazing look at marine life. If you’re in Edinburgh, a few hours at Camera Obscura or the Scottish National Portrait Gallery is what Sunday dreams are made of.
3. Get sporty
Watching live sports is a glorious way to spend a Sunday together. You could head to Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge or Arsenal’s Emirates for a big match in London, or Manchester United’s Old Trafford or Liverpool’s Anfield if you’re up north.
If it’s summer, there’s nothing like watching the action on the wicket with some cricket at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds. Or maybe you’re into rugby league? Why not watch Wigan Warriors at the Brick Community Stadium?
Just make sure you head to Primrose Farm to get fed and watered before or after the match. Here you can fuel up on a menu packed with pub classics, all washed down with a refreshing drink or two.
4. Be a little competitive
Instead of watching sport, why not give it a go yourselves? Head down to your local bowling alley for a couple of games to compete for the best in the family accolade – bumpers are optional!
The kids will no doubt love spending some of their pocket money in the arcades too. Or you could try crazy golf, indoor skiing, go-karting or maybe even indoor skydiving – iFLY is the place to go with a number of locations across the UK.
If you’re lucky enough to have a Roxy Ball Room venue close by, you can play a whole host of different games across a Sunday afternoon. There’s bowling, air hockey, pool, shuffleboard, ping pong, golf and more. And if you’re along the South Coast in the Hayling Island area, after you’ve had some fun at the local amusement park with its rides and arcades, head to Langbrook Farm to catch a breath and a bite.
5. Grab a Sunday carvery near you
Whether you’ve done one of the activities above or you just fancy treating yourself and the family on a Sunday, a delicious carvery is just the thing.
We may serve our carveries every day of the week, but Sundays are made for roasts. We serve 14-hour slow-cooked carvery meats that are juicy, succulent and moist. Or you can choose our vegetarian pie. You’ll enjoy seasonal vegetables and super crispy roast potatoes. And we believe that a Yorkshire pudding is a Sunday roast essential regardless of the meat, so you’ll get our traditional puds on your plate too.
The kids can finish off with ice cream and you can try one of our homemade cakes for the sweetest finish you can imagine. Our carveries are made for family dining with such a huge choice and no wait, all contributing to an unforgettable Sunday.
