Farmhouse proud charity partners of Macmillan Cancer Support
Farmhouse: proud charity partners of Macmillan Cancer Support
Farmhouse, alongside the wider Greene King group, have been proud charity partners of Macmillan Cancer Support since 2012, and our long partnership has collectively raised over £25 million* to date through great fundraising activities in our pubs and restaurants, amazing promotions for our guests, and fun charity activities behind the scenes at our support centres in Bury St. Edmunds and Burton-upon-Trent.The money raised helps to support the dedicated Macmillan nurses and professionals who provide vital care to patients and their families, whether it's medical, emotional, or practical.
Our partnership journey so far
2025 in particular was a record-breaking year for Farmhouse and the wider Greene King group, raising £4 million together.* This generous sum could support Macmillan to fund over 100,000 hours of professional and nursing care, or support for 50 nurses for an entire year.
In January 2026, Greene King pledge to dedicate the first six months of fundraising to the Macmillan Support Line, a vital lifeline for people living with cancer.
We’re committed to continuing our fundraising for this important cause and to shining a light on the remarkable Macmillan team members who give so much to help others. Cancer can destroy lives, but Macmillan Cancer Support can provide advice, support and just someone to talk to in the darkest of times.
Why we're proud to be charity partners of Macmillan Cancer Support
Macmillan was founded in 1911 by Douglas Macmillan after he felt inspired by his personal experience of losing his father to cancer. Determined to make a difference, he set out to improve support not only for those living with the disease but also for the loved ones who care for them.
Although there has been a greater uptake in cancer screening, decreases in the number of smokers and increases in types of cancer prevention initiatives such as the HPV vaccination, Macmillan Cancer Support estimates that the number of people living with cancer in the UK rose from almost 3 million in 2020 to almost 3.5 million in 2025. You can read more about the charity's prevalence estimates on their website here.
A light in the dark for our community
Cancer can be gruelling for those battling it, but it can have a significant impact on a person’s loved ones too. Whether it’s medical guidance, practical support or someone to share a coffee with, Macmillan works to be there at every stage of the journey, for whatever you need.
The charity also helps to equip healthcare professionals with the latest resources and pushes for further research into cancer care. You can also receive support if you’re an employer and want to support employees affected by cancer. But the vital work, support, opportunities and services that Macmillan offers to people affected by cancer are only made possible through donations.
At Farmhouse, we’re honoured to support such an incredible charity and grateful for how generous and giving our customers have been throughout the years.
How has Farmhouse helped raise donations as a charity partner for Macmillan Cancer Support?
Greene King and its portfolio of brands formed a charity partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support in 2012, originally setting out to raise £3 million for the charity. However, through a busy calendar of quiz nights, coffee mornings, mountain treks and abseiling down buildings, we smashed our target early – and decided it was time to aim higher.
Our teams in pubs, restaurants and across the rest of the business are always thinking of more weird and wonderful ways of fundraising, going to great lengths to celebrate the invaluable and unwavering support Macmillan provides. We've cycled across Europe, taken to the water for boat races and pushed our bodies to the limits with marathons and triathlons. We've even had a few shaved heads around the office, too.
Fundraising in our pubs
At Farmhouse, we're no different. We love to get our customers involved with charity fundraising for Macmillan and you've been with us every step of the way. Throughout the last few years, we've donated a portion of the profits from our limited-edition Farmhouse Inns and Farmhouse Kitchen cakes to Macmillan Cancer Support, meaning every slice sold in our pubs has helped to support those in need through Macmillan's services.
Macmillan, Farmhouse and Men's Mental Health Week
Together with talkSPORT, Toolstation and Macmillan, Greene King worked in partnership throughout Men's Mental Health Week 2025 to encourage men to come together and have important conversations with our #ShoulderToShoulder campaign. In January 2025, the Greene King group dedicated six months of charity fundraising to Macmillan's Support Line, a confidential service for those living with, or affected by, cancer.
The Tub2Pub initative
The tubs are then recycled and the plastic sold, with all proceeds going to Macmillan. Over the past five years, we have collected 26,253 kg of plastic across the Greene King group, which is around 230,000 tubs, and equates to £23,908 raised.
Doing our bit for society
At Farmhouse, we’ve also provided free meals for Macmillan nurses and introduced community breakfast events throughout Greene King’s partnership. We're always researching new ways to raise money to support Macmillan and their cancer research initiatives.
